After Frenectomy

  • Use gauze pads provided over the site, and change as instructed to stop the minor bleeding, until the gauze is light pink in color.
  • Something cold like popsicles or ice chips should be placed directly on the area to minimize swelling.  This is most effective when done during the first 24-48 hours.
  • While you are numb, you can have liquids and soft food that you do not need to chew to avoid biting your lip or tongue
  • After the numbing wears off, you can have soft foods, that are mild in temperature and spiciness.
  • Avoid sharp or crunchy foods, or things with small seeds that can get stuck in the sockets for 2 weeks
  • Do not use any drinking straws, do any type of suction motion or do any spitting for one complete week.
  • Tongue exercises should be started as soon as possible (may even be the day of the procedure) as directed by your speech pathologist or myofunctional therapist or Dr. Zeidan.
