Neurotoxin Pre-Treatment Instructions
-
Patient must be in good health with no active skin infections in the areas to be treated
-
Stay out of the sun as much as possible. When you step out, make sure to wear sunscreen.
-
Patient should discuss any needle phobia and pain management with the administering doctor prior to treatment. Kindly inform us to accommodate.
-
Schedule your appointment at least (2) weeks prior to a special event which may be occurring, i.e., wedding, vacation, etc. Results typically begin to take effect approx. 5 days following treatment, and may take (2) weeks to reach their full effect. Bruising may last up to several days or occasionally weeks following injections.
-
Avoid anti-inflammatory / blood thinning medications ideally, for a period of (2) weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections. Ask your doctor before stopping any blood thinners.
-
On the morning of your procedure, ensure you eat a healthy, nourishing breakfast. If your appointment is later in the day, make sure you eat close to your appointment. This will prevent you from becoming faint or lightheaded during your treatment.
-
Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol may thin the blood, which will increase the risk of bruising.
Neurotoxin Post-Treatment Instructions
-
Your treatment will take effect anywhere from 7-10 days.
-
Avoid any massage or pressure to the area, as this may disrupt placement of the drug. If you would like to re-apply makeup, please do so gently over the treated area.
-
Avoid being out in the heat, tanning, self-tanning beds, or heat lamps for 72 hours following your treatment. You should not expose yourself to excessive heat until all the redness and swelling has gone from the injection site.
-
Avoid any facials, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for a minimum of 10 days following your procedure. If you are unsure about how long to wait before having a certain procedure, talk to your doctor.
-
Refrain from heavy exercise for 24 hours.
-
If you have any discomfort following your treatment, you may take Tylenol as needed. Applying a cool compress on the injection site can help reduce swelling. Place the cool compress on the site for 15 minutes every hour. If you have swelling, you can prop up your mattress or head with pillows to help bring the swelling down.
-
If bruising occurs, it is most common around the eyes and can be covered using a cover-up stick. Bruising is usually minimal and may take up to 7 days to resolve completely.
-
It is helpful to avoid blood thinner over-the counter medications such as Aspirin, Motrin and Aleve at least 24 hours after treatment. Ask your doctor before stopping any blood thinners.
